Urban Rail Atlas presents official annual station observations without turning them into estimates, real-time conditions, or line totals.
What a value means
Every value carries its metric, fiscal-year period, publication status, source, and retrieval date. Values may only be compared when their reporting definitions are compatible.
Station complexes
Some operators publish one figure for a connected station complex. That total stays on the complex page; it is never divided among member stations or assigned to a line.
JR East and MLIT
JR East values come from MLIT's station passenger-count dataset and describe an operator-defined station, sometimes represented by a source group. MLIT notes that operators calculate their figures independently, so these values stay in a separate comparison group and are not combined with Metro or Toei rankings.
In the current MLIT release, most JR East records repeat their FY2018 value in FY2019. Urban Rail Atlas preserves those reported values instead of silently replacing them. An affected trend and comparison is labelled “source repeats FY2018”; derived indexed and year-over-year views inherit the same caveat. JR East's boarding-only tables are a different metric and are not used to overwrite MLIT entries-plus-exits observations.
Display identity
Reviewed community and editorial Romaji names and JR East passenger numbers are a separate display-reference layer. They are checked against the stable MLIT station identity and may be incomplete; they never replace source names, source identifiers, statistical provenance, licences, memberships, or publication holds.
Passenger service identity coverage
Current passenger services are distinct from source-defined statistical lines and historical observations. A partial symbol applies only to the listed station entities; station-number prefixes never define line coverage.
0 JR East line mappings verified; 26 unresolved. Unresolved coverage means the mapping has not been established, not that the real service is absent. Existing reviewed station numbers retain their separate service context.
Symbol facts use pinned Wikidata structured statements under CC0; Wikipedia prose and operator artwork have separate terms. Line coverage sections link reviewed facts and applicable stations where supported.
Missing values
Missing does not mean zero. Trend lines break across an unpublished fiscal year, and the exact table states the absence.
